The Challenge

Timex is one of the most iconic watch brands in the world, with a heritage spanning 170 years and customers across North America, Europe, and beyond.

Timex is one of the most iconic watch brands in the world, with a heritage spanning 170 years and customers across North America, Europe, and beyond. With digital storefronts serving millions of shoppers globally, accessibility was no longer just a US legal concern — it was a multi-jurisdictional business imperative.

Timex faced compliance obligations across three distinct regulatory frameworks simultaneously: the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in the United States, the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) in Canada, and the European Accessibility Act (EAA) — which requires digital products and services sold in EU member states to meet accessibility standards by June 2025.

Timex needed more than a point-in-time audit. They needed a strategic partner who could map their entire digital footprint against all three frameworks, build a cohesive remediation roadmap, and establish a program that would sustain compliance as their global e-commerce presence evolves.

The Inclusive Web Solution

Inclusive Web designed and delivered a Global Accessibility Program for Timex — a unified strategy that addressed ADA, AODA, and EAA obligations within a single, coordinated framework. Rather than treating each jurisdiction as a separate workstream, we built a compliance architecture centered on WCAG 2.1 AA, which underpins all three regulatory standards, ensuring that work done for one market strengthened compliance across all markets.

Our team conducted a comprehensive human-led audit of Timex's global e-commerce properties, evaluating every critical user flow — from homepage through product selection to checkout — across regional variants of the site. Every issue identified was not just documented but tracked through to verified resolution.

  • Global accessibility audit mapped against ADA (US), AODA (Canada), and EAA (European Union) requirements

  • Unified WCAG 2.1 AA remediation framework covering all regional digital properties

  • Market-specific compliance gap analysis — identifying where regional requirements diverged and required targeted attention

  • EAA readiness assessment with timeline mapping against the June 2025 enforcement deadline

  • AODA multi-year accessibility plan support, including documentation required under Ontario regulation

  • Prioritized global remediation roadmap aligned to legal risk by market

  • Verification testing — every fix confirmed working before sign-off, no exceptions

  • Real-user testing with testers who identify as disabled and rely on assistive technologies daily, including screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver) and keyboard-only navigation

  • Ongoing global accessibility monitoring program to maintain compliance across all markets

Real-User Accessibility Testing

Inclusive Web partnered with testers who identify as disabled and rely on assistive technologies daily — including screen readers, voice control, and keyboard-only navigation. This ensures that Timex's digital experience works not just on paper, but in real-world use.

The Result

WCAG 2.1 AA compliance achieved across Timex's global e-commerce properties — satisfying the technical foundation of ADA, AODA, and EAA simultaneously

200+ accessibility issues resolved and independently verified across all regional site variants

EAA readiness achieved ahead of the June 2025 enforcement deadline, protecting Timex's ability to sell in EU markets without interruption

AODA multi-year plan documented and filed in accordance with Ontario regulatory requirements

ADA legal exposure substantially reduced across US digital properties

Real-world usability confirmed by testers who live with disabilities and use assistive technologies — not just automated scan scores

A sustainable global accessibility program established, with monitoring and governance in place to protect compliance as the brand launches new markets, products, and campaigns

"Timex operates in markets around the world, and accessibility law is evolving in all of them. Inclusive Web gave us one coherent strategy — not three separate projects. They understood the global picture and built a program that actually holds up."
