Chrome Extension Privacy Statement

Inclusive Digital ("we," "our," "the Extension") is a Chrome extension that helps users audit websites for accessibility (WCAG) compliance, report issues, and manage accessibility audits directly from a browser side panel. This policy explains what data the Extension accesses, why, and how it is handled.

1. Information We Collect

Account credentials. When you sign in, we collect the email address and password you provide to authenticate you against our backend service. Your password is never stored by the Extension itself; a session token is stored locally (via Chrome's storage API) to keep you signed in.

Website content you choose to audit. The Extension's core function is scanning websites for accessibility issues. When you actively initiate a scan or select an element on a page, the Extension reads that page's DOM structure, accessibility tree (element roles, names, and ARIA attributes), and captures a screenshot of the page, in order to generate your accessibility report. This only happens on pages you explicitly choose to audit — the Extension does not read or monitor any other browsing activity, and does not run in the background on tabs you have not interacted with.

Audit and report data you create. Reports, issues, comments, screenshots, and any other content you create while using the Extension are sent to and stored on our backend servers (*.inclusive.digital) so you can access your work across sessions.

We do not collect: browsing history, location data, financial or payment information, health information, or any data unrelated to the accessibility-auditing purpose described above. We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

2. How We Use Your Information

Collected information is used solely to:

Authenticate you and maintain your session

Generate the accessibility audit reports and issues you request

Save and display your reports, issues, and audit history

Automatically sign you out after a period of inactivity, for account security

3. How Permissions Are Used

The Extension requests the following browser permissions, each limited to the purpose below:

Host permissions (requested per-site, on demand): Access to the specific page you choose to audit, requested only at the moment you initiate a scan — never granted in bulk or used on sites you haven't acted on.

debugger: Used exclusively to read the accessibility tree and capture a screenshot of the page you are actively auditing. Never used to monitor browsing or intercept network traffic.

scripting: Injects a script into the page you're auditing to highlight elements and extract accessibility data.

storage: Stores your session token, preferences, and in-progress report data locally on your device.

tabs: Identifies the tab you're working in and manages the Extension's optional pop-out window.

sidePanel: Displays the Extension's interface.

alarms: Triggers automatic sign-out after inactivity.

4. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information or audit data to third parties. Data is transmitted only to our own backend infrastructure (*.inclusive.digital) to provide the Extension's functionality, and is not shared with any other party except as required by law.

5. Data Retention & Security

Your account data and audit history are retained for as long as your account remains active, or until you request deletion. Data in transit to our servers is encrypted (HTTPS). Session tokens stored locally are cleared automatically after a period of inactivity and when you log out.

6. Your Choices

You may sign out at any time, which clears your locally stored session data. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us at the address below. Host permissions granted to specific websites can be revoked at any time via Chrome's extension settings.

7. Children's Privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as the Extension evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
